BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will soon implement a rate adjustment for its Medicare Supplement members effective May 1, 2024. The rate will be guaranteed for a full year. Members will not receive a rate adjustment in January 2025.

We will communicate the rate adjustment to impacted members via letter. Letters will be mailed in several waves beginning March 20 through March 29. Here are sample letters for each affected block:

• Pre-MIPPA: plans effective prior to June 1, 2010
• Post MIPPA: plans effective June 1, 2010 - Aug. 1, 2018
• New Block: plans effective Aug. 1, 2018 to date

Members are encouraged to contact their agent or call the retention line provided in the letter. The AOR will remain intact if a member calls the retention line. 

Agents will receive a file of their Medicare Supplement members to help manage and serve those affected by the rate adjustment. 

The adjusted rates effective May 1, 2024, and beyond are reflected in Connecture. You can also download the updated rate book from Storefront on or after March 15.

New Block members in their 12-month rate guarantee window will receive the rate adjustment on their anniversary date.

Member Options
We encourage members to make sure they are receiving all discounts they are eligible for, like the household discount or auto draft discount.

There are also lower-cost plan options available for members wishing to consider another BlueCross Medicare Supplement plan. A lower-cost plan may meet their coverage needs while continuing to provide the added value of a BlueCross Medicare plan, like:

• Local, award-winning customer service.
• No-cost hearing benefits and low copays on hearing aids.
• No-cost gym membership and fitness benefits.
